The
First Presbyterian Church, Carroll was organized on August 28th, 1870,
by George R. Carroll, synodical missionary from Cedar Rapids, with the
Rev. WR Smith holding worship services.
The
original church structure was short-lived in its service to the
congregation. Less than four years after its dedication; the church was
destroyed by fire. Within a year, a new brick church was built on the
same site.
By
the 1920’s the congregation continued to increase in size, and it
became apparent that a new building would have to be constructed.
On
May 8, 1928, ground was broken and the cornerstone was laid on July 23,
on the existing building on the corner of 10th and North Carroll
Streets. On November 11, the first worship service was held and
services continue to be held witnessing to Christ’s love in this
community.

First
Presbyterian Church, Glidden was organized on April 17th, 1870, by
a missionary of the Omaha Presbytery, the reverend George R. Carroll,
with worship services held in the old schoolhouse led by WR Smith.
Services
were held frequently for four years in the schoolhouse until the
congregation became strong enough to build a church building. The new
building was erected in the fall of 1874 and remodeled in 1888.
Nineteen years later, the congregation decided to start a new building,
which was dedicated January 12, 1908.
The church observed its centennial in 1970 with special emphasis during April and the summer months.
